Overcoming Challenges in NPWT Technology
Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) offers significant benefits in wound healing, particularly for chronic and hard-to-heal wounds. However, current NPWT devices present several challenges. They are typically large, complex, and expensive, requiring substantial training to operate. Moreover, integrated suction pumps in some designs often suffer from drawbacks such as complexity, high cost, difficulty of use, and inadequate wound isolation, posing a risk of infection. Leakage along the air pathway may allow contaminated air to re-enter the wound area, compromising the healing process.
